Our Programs

Seven interconnected focus areas driving community health transformation — from healthy ageing to digital literacy and climate action.

👴

Healthy Ageing & Senior Care

Supporting older persons to live longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives — with dignity and community connection.

UN Decade 2030WHO-GNAFCCSDG 3

Overview

Healthy ageing is one of CIF India's flagship focus areas. Aligned with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) and the WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC), we work to create environments and systems that support older persons to live well.

Kerala has one of India's oldest populations by proportion, making this focus especially relevant. We address the full spectrum of healthy ageing — from preventive health and mental wellbeing to care systems, social inclusion and digital access.

Key Activities

  • Community-based ageing support networks
  • Caregiver training and capacity building
  • Mental health and social isolation interventions
  • Age-friendly environment assessments
  • Digital literacy for older persons
  • Policy advocacy for elder rights

Who We Serve

Older persons (60+), their caregivers, families, and communities — with special attention to those in rural, tribal and low-income settings.

🏥

Public Health & One Health

Holistic, integrated approaches connecting human, animal and environmental health for sustainable community wellbeing.

One HealthSDG 3National Health Mission

Overview

Public health sits at the heart of CIF India's mission. We adopt the One Health approach — recognising that human health is deeply interconnected with animal health and the health of the environment. This integrated perspective allows us to design more holistic and durable interventions.

We identify specific gaps in public health systems — particularly those affecting vulnerable populations who lack adequate access to healthcare — and develop innovative solutions to bridge those gaps.

Key Activities

  • Community health needs assessments
  • One Health gap identification and intervention design
  • Zoonotic disease prevention in tribal communities
  • Mental health awareness and access programs
  • Non-communicable disease prevention
  • Health system strengthening partnerships
🌿

Climate Change & Environment

Addressing the health impacts of climate change on Kerala's most vulnerable communities.

SDG 13One HealthSDG 15

Overview

Climate change is not just an environmental issue — it is a profound public health crisis. Extreme weather, floods, heat waves, and changing disease patterns disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. Kerala's unique geography makes this especially urgent.

CIF India works to build community resilience to climate-related health impacts, while also advocating for environment-friendly practices that protect both human and ecological health.

Key Activities

  • Climate-health vulnerability assessments
  • Community disaster preparedness programs
  • Heat stress and health awareness in older persons
  • Environmental health education in schools and communities
  • Green health initiatives aligned with SDG 13 and 15
👩

Women Empowerment

Building women's leadership, health literacy, and economic participation across Kerala's communities.

SDG 5SDG 3SDG 10

Overview

Women are central to community health — as caregivers, health decision-makers, and community leaders. CIF India works to empower women not just as beneficiaries of health programs but as active agents of change in their communities.

We focus especially on women in tribal areas, rural communities, and those with disabilities — groups facing compounding vulnerabilities.

Key Activities

  • Women's health literacy programs
  • Leadership development for women community health workers
  • Livelihood and economic empowerment support
  • Safe motherhood and reproductive health education
  • Gender-based violence prevention and support linkages
💻

Education & Digital Literacy

Bridging digital divides for older persons, tribal communities and underserved populations in Kerala.

SDG 4SDG 10Digital India

Overview

In an increasingly digital world, lack of digital literacy is a significant health and social barrier. Older persons, tribal communities and those in remote areas are often excluded from health information, government services, and social connection as a result of the digital divide.

CIF India designs and delivers digital literacy programs that are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and health-focused.

Key Activities

  • Digital literacy training for older persons
  • Smartphone and internet literacy for tribal communities
  • Health app navigation and telemedicine orientation
  • Youth-as-digital-mentors programs
  • Community digital resource centres
🥗

Nutrition & Food Security

Combating malnutrition, food insecurity and diet-related diseases across vulnerable communities.

SDG 2SDG 3National Nutrition Mission

Overview

Malnutrition — both undernutrition and overnutrition — remains a significant challenge in India, particularly among children, older persons and tribal communities. CIF India addresses nutrition through community-based programs that are evidence-based, culturally appropriate and sustainable.

Key Activities

  • Community nutrition assessments and mapping
  • Nutrition education and cooking demonstrations
  • Kitchen garden promotion for food security
  • Malnutrition screening in tribal areas
  • Geriatric nutrition programs for older persons
  • School nutrition and health linkages
📱

Public Health Technology

Leveraging technology to create scalable, accessible and data-driven public health solutions.

Digital HealthSDG 9SDG 3

Overview

Technology offers unprecedented opportunities to scale public health impact — but only when designed with end-users in mind. CIF India develops and promotes public health technology solutions that are accessible, affordable, and appropriate for Kerala's diverse communities.

From telemedicine platforms and health apps to data systems for community health workers, we aim to harness the power of technology for the communities that need it most.

Key Activities

  • Health technology needs assessment in communities
  • Telemedicine access programs for remote areas
  • Community health information systems
  • mHealth (mobile health) solution development and testing
  • Data literacy training for health workers
  • Technology partnerships with academia and industry
