Seven interconnected focus areas driving community health transformation — from healthy ageing to digital literacy and climate action.
Healthy ageing is one of CIF India's flagship focus areas. Aligned with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030) and the WHO Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC), we work to create environments and systems that support older persons to live well.
Kerala has one of India's oldest populations by proportion, making this focus especially relevant. We address the full spectrum of healthy ageing — from preventive health and mental wellbeing to care systems, social inclusion and digital access.
Older persons (60+), their caregivers, families, and communities — with special attention to those in rural, tribal and low-income settings.
Public health sits at the heart of CIF India's mission. We adopt the One Health approach — recognising that human health is deeply interconnected with animal health and the health of the environment. This integrated perspective allows us to design more holistic and durable interventions.
We identify specific gaps in public health systems — particularly those affecting vulnerable populations who lack adequate access to healthcare — and develop innovative solutions to bridge those gaps.
Climate change is not just an environmental issue — it is a profound public health crisis. Extreme weather, floods, heat waves, and changing disease patterns disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. Kerala's unique geography makes this especially urgent.
CIF India works to build community resilience to climate-related health impacts, while also advocating for environment-friendly practices that protect both human and ecological health.
Women are central to community health — as caregivers, health decision-makers, and community leaders. CIF India works to empower women not just as beneficiaries of health programs but as active agents of change in their communities.
We focus especially on women in tribal areas, rural communities, and those with disabilities — groups facing compounding vulnerabilities.
In an increasingly digital world, lack of digital literacy is a significant health and social barrier. Older persons, tribal communities and those in remote areas are often excluded from health information, government services, and social connection as a result of the digital divide.
CIF India designs and delivers digital literacy programs that are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and health-focused.
Malnutrition — both undernutrition and overnutrition — remains a significant challenge in India, particularly among children, older persons and tribal communities. CIF India addresses nutrition through community-based programs that are evidence-based, culturally appropriate and sustainable.
Technology offers unprecedented opportunities to scale public health impact — but only when designed with end-users in mind. CIF India develops and promotes public health technology solutions that are accessible, affordable, and appropriate for Kerala's diverse communities.
From telemedicine platforms and health apps to data systems for community health workers, we aim to harness the power of technology for the communities that need it most.
